In 2006, I asked my son where he wanted to go on vacation. He chose Dubai, then mostly desert. Since then, I've been visiting the United Arab Emirates, first as a tourist and later for business. I've seen Dubai change from a desert to a global city, a place where not only has a thriving real estate market emerged, but where there are also endless opportunities for entrepreneurs. All this under strong leadership with a long-term vision.
The opportunities in the Gulf region caught my attention, and I built a business network in Dubai, Kuwait and Saudi Arabia. In 2019/2020, I took the step to invest in real estate in Dubai and Ras Al Khaimah myself. Around the same time, two brokers asked me to help set up a real estate agency in Dubai. I first set up the compliance department and then gave strategic advice on business operations. The knowledge I gained during the Real Estate Executive Program at Heriot-Watt University in Dubai came in handy here.
This experience gave me a unique look behind the scenes of the Dubai real estate market. I saw for myself how many parties do not act with integrity, driven by self-interest rather than customer interest. Brokers who are mainly concerned with their own success, often on the backs of their clients or even their colleagues. Not only did I see it, but I also experienced it myself.
When I realized how big this problem is, I knew: this has to be different.
At GREM, transparency, independence and integrity are key. Where many brokerage firms state in their marketing material that they have integrity as their core value, many do NOT act on it. We advise investors on the best project developers, carry out due diligence, give second opinions, analyse projects and advise which investment is really worthwhile.
The big difference between a real estate agency and GREM is simple: a broker sells, GREM advises. Where a broker stops as soon as the signature has been signed, GREM continues. We think along, even long after the purchase or sale. Our sole focus is for the investor to make an informed, profitable and safe decision.
